Francis Lathrop 1925-2002
Out of his many public service and civic involvements in Westerly, the late Francis C. Lathrop, Jr. was particularly proud of his efforts on behalf of the Westerly Historical Society, and with good reason.
Fran’s wife, Helen, had been president of our group a few years before he became president and they had both been enthusiastic members at our Tuesday night meetings for many many years.
As was his style with many boards and associations in Westerly, he quickly brought his organizational and fiduciary skills to the society. He researched by-laws and meeting minutes from the past but was also always receptive to new ideas and procedures. He impressed his fellow board members with his energy, his inventiveness and his command of the ways of improving the society’s well-being.
Although his illness forced a premature cessation of his presidency, Fran is remembered gratefully and fondly for his providential dedication to a better society.
Our current state of good health is directly a result of his gifted and comprehensive efforts.
